When it comes to picking out the perfect wedding ring, there are many different decisions to be made and options to choose from! The pricing and value of a diamond wedding ring can be very complex. There are four primary factors known as the 4 C’s that determine the cost of the diamond: clarity, carat weight, color, and cut.
Clarity:
Diamond Clarity has a significant impact on the pricing of a diamond. The clarity grade of a diamond is based on the amount of blemishes and inclusions the diamond has. The fewer imperfections that the diamond has, the higher it is priced. However, many imperfections are not visible to the naked eye. A low clarity eye-clean diamond appears the same as a flawless diamond but is priced much lower!
Carat Weight:
The weight of a diamond is measured in carats. Carats are subdivided into 100 ‘points’ which allows jewelers to be extremely precise when measuring the weight. Essentially, the price of the diamond increases as the carats increase.
Color:
Diamonds have traces of elements in them which affects the color. As diamonds come from the ground, they often have traces of brown, yellow, or gray colors in them. A completely colorless diamond is the most rare, so the less color a diamond has the more expensive it is.
Cut:
There are a vast variety of shapes to choose from when picking out your ring! When it comes to pricing, not all diamond shapes are equal. Typically, shapes that use less of the rough diamond, such as the round brilliant cut, cost more per carat than shapes such as the emerald, princess and radiant cuts.
But with all of this being said, remember the beauty of the diamond is in the eye of the beholder and every wedding ring is a special symbol of your love.
