How To Plan an Eco-Friendly Wedding

Weddings that are eco-conscious are on the rise. An eco-friendly or sustainable wedding is when a couple seeks to minimize the environmental impact on their big day. You can still have the wedding of your dreams while also cutting down on unnecessary waste. Here are some ideas to make your day look beautiful while also being kind to our planet!

Choose Sustainable Diamonds

You can start planning an eco-friendly wedding as early as buying a ring. Select an antique diamond or visit a dealer dedicated to sourcing diamonds and gemstones in environmentally responsible ways. Tiffany & Co, Brilliant Earth, and Ingle & Rhode are some of our favorite jewelry companies because not only are their rings stunning, but they are also ethically sourced.

Pick an Eco-Friendly Wedding Venue

Choosing a sustainable wedding venue is the simplest way to have an environmentally friendly wedding. Selecting a site that is gorgeous on its own requires less decor. We recommend tying the knot in the great outdoors.

Harlow Events loves mountain wedding venues with majestic views and jaw dropping scenery. Nothing can beat a simple and sophisticated setup with a backdrop of the Rocky Mountains. Even better? All of the natural light will make for stunning pictures. Check out this beautiful Colorado wedding we did!

Select Eco-Friendly Paper Goods

Save-the-dates, invitations, programs, menus, and thank-you cards all require a significant amount of paper. We suggest using recycled paper instead. While shopping for a stationer, look for companies who give back to the environment. Paper Culture, for example, plants a tree for every order it receives.

Keep Floral Arrangements in Mind

Cut flowers are not the most environmentally friendly option. However, there are some great eco wedding alternatives such as potted flowers and plants that can be reused after the event. Here’s a tip from Harlow Events: search for florists online who are committed to environmental sustainability.

If you decide that you want cut flowers for your big day, choose local and in-season blooms. Donate them after to a nursing home or hospital, so they can live on after the ceremony!

When You Can, Rent

Rent linen napkins, tablecloths, and runners instead of disposable napkins. Replace plastic glasses and paper plates with elegant china. Not only will this give your wedding a more luxurious feel, but it will also reduce landfill waste. A rental company we love is CORT Party Rental. Check out their instagram!
